DOUBLES TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS COTTONWOOD TENNIS CLUB ACTIVITIES
The Cottonwood Tennis Courts were bustling with activity when over 100 enthusiastic players were vying for trophies in the CTC Doubles Tournament. Both men and women competed in same gender matches in four levels of competition during the five day tournament beginning January 9th.
All week club members and guests were treated to great tennis, a balance between competition and comradery, long rallies, breath-taking shots, tie-breakers, lots of laughs and fantastic food. Even the cooler than average mornings did not deter the more hearty spectators.
Breakfast, nibbles and lunches were coordinated by LLC (short for Lynn's Lunch Crew) consisting of Bonnie Livingston, Peg Onken, Mary Burke, Lucy Geller and Lynn Cox. According to Ms. Cox, the LLC makes a concerted effort to provide healthy home-made food and comments from their appreciative recipients more than validated their accomplishments.
Winners in each of the women's divisions are as follows. Red Champion - Pat Davidson, Rae Lewis; Finalist - Susan Stewart, Mary Jane Robinson; Green Champion - Vonnie Ticknor, Carol Mitchell-Gears; Finalist - Kathy Sundsrud, Betty Dunn; 3rd Place - Neda Mead, Barb Kudla; Blue Champion - Sandra LaBute, Ann Armbruster; Finalist - Jeanne Harstone, Susie Dunn; 3rd Place - Sylvia Page, Faye Haynes; Black Champion - Marsha Coffman, Dorthea Flachsmann; Finalist - Donna Nelson, Mary McCalla. Trophies were also handed out to the following men in their respective divisions. Red Champion - Al Wagner, Jack Sanders; Finalist Charlie Rogers, Bruce Beelman; Green Champion - Lou Galiano, Jack Peterson; Finalist Bill Bailey, Sid DeHaan; 3rd Place - Roger Diddock, Dave Cain; Blue Champion - Rob Campbell, Steve Nolan; Finalist - Tony Garcia, Harry Seger, 3rd Place - Bob Heichelbech, Dag Gruden; Black Champion - Doug Page, Mel Renald; Finalist - Tom Traver, Don Peterson; 3rd Place - Roger Osten, Dan Rosler.
Club members are now looking forward to the Valentine theme dinner meeting on February 15, hosted by Sylvia and Doug Page.
